Wight Drainage Ltd

Privacy Policy

Last updated: 24 October 2026

Wight Drainage Ltd respects your privacy. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we need it, how long we keep it and what rights you have. It applies to information collected through this website, by phone, by email and when we attend your property.

1. Who we are

Wight Drainage Ltd is the data controller for the personal information described in this policy. We are a family drainage business based in Cowes and working across the Isle of Wight. You can reach us by email at office@wightdrainage.co.uk, by phone on 07506 458407 or by post to our Cowes office. We are registered in England and Wales and we are fully insured.

2. Information we collect

We only ask for what we genuinely need to help you:

  • Contact details you give us, such as your name, address, phone number and email address.
  • Details about the property and the drainage problem, including any photos or videos you send us.
  • Billing and payment details needed to raise an invoice or take payment for work carried out.
  • Records of our conversations with you, including call notes, emails, text messages, quotes and job notes.
  • Survey reports, camera footage and technical findings where a CCTV survey or build over survey is carried out.

Our contact form does not store anything on this website. It opens your own email application with the message already written, and you decide whether to send it. The site does not use advertising or analytics cookies of its own. It does load the Figtree and Plus Jakarta Sans typefaces from Google Fonts, so your browser sends a request to Google and Google may record your IP address. Our hosting provider may keep standard server logs of page requests for security and diagnostic purposes.

3. How we use your information

We use your information to:

  • Reply to your enquiry and give you a free, no-obligation quote.
  • Arrange, carry out and complete the drainage work you have asked for.
  • Raise invoices, take payment and keep proper accounting records.
  • Keep you updated before, during and after a visit.
  • Answer questions, deal with guarantees and handle complaints.
  • Improve the way we work and the service we provide.

We never sell your personal information and we do not send you marketing unless you have asked us to.

4. Our legal basis for using it

We rely on the performance of a contract where you have booked or are about to book work with us. We rely on our legitimate interests to run the business safely, keep records, prevent fraud and respond to enquiries. We rely on your consent where you choose to send us photos, leave a review or receive updates from us. We also rely on legal obligations where tax and accounting records must be kept.

5. Who we share information with

We share personal information only where it is necessary to deliver our service or meet a legal duty. That may include our accountant for bookkeeping and tax, our payment provider, our insurance company if a claim arises, and a public body such as a water company or the local authority where a build over, connectivity or drainage matter requires it. We do not sell, rent or trade personal information.

6. Photos, videos and reviews

We sometimes photograph or film completed work for our own records and to show the standard of our work on this website and on our social media pages. We do not publish images that identify you, your household or your property without your permission, and we can remove an image at any time if you ask us to. If you leave a review we publish the first name and town you give us, nothing more.

7. How long we keep information

Enquiry and quote records that do not lead to work are kept for about two years. Invoices and accounting records are kept for at least six years, in line with HM Revenue and Customs requirements. Survey reports, guarantees and job notes are kept for as long as they remain relevant to the work carried out. Photos and videos are kept until you ask us to remove them.

8. How we protect your information

Access to customer information is limited to the people who need it to do the job. Records are held on password protected devices and services, and where we send information electronically we use secure means wherever practical.

9. Your rights

You can ask us for a copy of the information we hold about you, ask us to correct anything that is wrong, ask us to delete it, ask us to limit how we use it, object to our use of it, or ask us to move it to another provider. Where we rely on consent, you can withdraw that consent at any time. These requests are free and we will respond within one month. If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

10. Children

Our services are not aimed at children and we do not knowingly collect information about anyone under the age of 13.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time as our services or the law change. The current version is always the one published on this page, with the date shown at the top.

12. Get in touch

If you have a question about this policy, or you would like a copy of the information we hold about you, please email office@wightdrainage.co.uk or call 07506 458407 and we will be happy to help.
